Behind the Build: Super Bowl LIII Halftime Show

by | Feb 14, 2019 | BLOG

The Super Bowl LIII halftime show took place on Feb. 3, 2019, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, GA, and was headlined by Maroon 5 with special guests Big Boi and Travis Scott. All Access provided the set/staging, pregame stage, and staging fabrication.

One of our key focuses when designing the set was pyrotechnics. We worked closely with StrictlyFX, which provided all the pyro and effects, to integrate pyro into the stage design. We also had to run tests beforehand to guarantee that all the heat generated from the pyro didn’t negatively affect the staging equipment. (It did not.)

The main “M” stage loaded in on 25 individual carts. We fabricated the plexiglass nose of the stage, which held lighting provided by PRG. We also provided six video carts and five lighting carts, as well as the round stage.

The entire set arrived in 14 semi trucks and was set up in 6 minutes.
